For Art’s Sake

“My parents didn’t really support the idea of me pursuing art professionally back home in Indonesia. I guess because they were concerned about my future. But they were supportive of me coming to Japan, since they knew how much I love drawing ever since I was a kid. And it’s pretty big in Japan, with manga and anime. Only thing is, they’d rather I study something else. So now I major in international relations and this is my last semester. I’m actually looking for a job here because I want to experience how it is to work in Japan. Although I hadn’t taken the path I originally wanted—attend art school—I don’t have regrets. I’m fine studying something else while doing art as a hobby. I see my friends doing what they love for grades, making some of them enjoy art less as a result.”
